The Lifshits synagogue was constructed in 1897. During the struggle of Soviet authorities with religion (1930) the synagogue was made into a club named after Stalin. In 1942 the fascists transformed the synagogue into a warehouse of the clothes which was taken off the killed Jews. Then after the liberation from the fascists, in this building there was a philharmonic society.
In 1992 by the order Vinnitsa City Executive Committee the synagogue was given back to the Jewish community. Reb Leibl Surkis began to restore the synagogue. Isaac Novoseletsky continued this work with the financial support of JDC. Then the support of JDC has stopped and the restoration of the synagogue building is not completed. But the life is proceeding! The Jewish organizations have come into the building and have breathed a new life into it. Under one roof young people and the veterans, amateurs of theatre and music, volunteers and people needing help have got together.
